CAAL Night: An Evening of Cabaret at the Neue Galerie New York
Culinary Arts, Museum and Music

November 19 2009

1048 Fifth Avenue
at 86th Street
New York, NY 10028

Thursday 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM

CAAL Members will had a private docent-led tour of the Neue Galerie exhibition, "From Klimt to Klee: Masterworks from the Serge Sabarsky Collection;" a three-course prix-fixe gourmet dinner at the Café Sabarsky, prepared by celebrated New York chef Kurt Gutenbrunner; and a cabaret performance by talented young baritone Thomas Meglioranza (and pianist Reiko Uchida).

Hailed for his "vocal distinction and expressive warmth" (The Boston Globe), American baritone Thomas Meglioranza is one of the country's most unique and sought-after young singers. On November 19, he unveils his new program, "Songs from the Great War." A snapshot of the vibrant musical culture of the First World War, the show will include memorable hits by Irving Berlin, Kurt Weill, Charles Ives, Eric Wolfgang Korngold and others.

The museum's Café Sabarsky is located on the main floor, and in keeping with the Neue Galerie's European ambiance and focus, the Café's menu and cultural offerings mirror those of the legendary fin de siècle Viennese cafes that were once renowned as artistic and intellectual hubs. The Café offers a unique performance series devoted primarily to German and Austrian music of the 1890s to 1930s, a fertile and volatile musical style.

Praise of Thomas Meglioranza:

"Handsome sound and congenial manner"

The New York Times

"Winning personality and abilities of stunning variety"

New York Concert Review
