Columbia Festival of Winds
Conference and Music

March 07

Campus Organization:
Columbia University Wind Ensemble

2920 Broadway
New York, NY 10027
212-854-5800

On March 7, 2010, the Columbia University Wind Ensemble will host the Second Annual Columbia Festival of Winds, a day-long series of concerts featuring New York City area music ensembles, including the Columbia University Wind Ensemble, the Princeton University Wind Ensemble, Big Apple Corp, and Jambalaya Brass. The evening will culminate with a headline performance by the famed jazz ensemble, the Wycliffe Gordon Quintet.

With the proceeds from the 2009 Festival of Winds and the help of the Morningside Area Alliance, the CU Wind Ensemble established Making Music Matter, a free after-school music program for students at P.S. 125. Members of the Wind Ensemble are currently teaching 16 fourth grade students how to play flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. The P.S. 125 band will perform during the Festival to demonstrate their accomplishments.

This year, the Wind Ensemble seeks to maintain this real and positive change for inner-city students and believes that the Festival can continue to bring instruments, music, and learning to schools without music programs.

Please check back or visit our website (http://www.columbia.edu/cu/wind/cfw/hub.html) as we update the day's schedule of events and confirm the ensembles performing. We look forward to you joining us for a day filled with music and philanthropy!
