The turntables aren't really on the Hudson this summer, but when you have a party that's this much fun, it's best not to quibble. Come early for sun bathing and picnicking, or join the party in time for fireworks and dancing. TOTH's Mariano, Nickodemus and percussionists Nappy G and Christian Rogers will welcome Mexico's Dr. Juice, Houston's DJ Sun and Six Degree's recording artist Jeff Stott.

Rooftop's annual 4th of July show includes a party atmosphere peppered with some prepossessing films; serious calls for social justice tempered by some seriously funny films. Known for his compelling collaborations with both visual artists and composers, Merce Cunningham will choreograph eight signature, site-specific Beacon Events within the vast spaces of the museum. Each weekend's performance by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, staged in individual galleries of Dia:Beacon, will be coupled with specifically developed scores for Beacon Events.

Risa Jaroslow's new work, 311, will take place under the massive archways of the city's Municipal Building. Six dancers will engage in a range of interactions, while an interviewer queries passersby and people, entering and leaving the building about their thoughts on city government.

Say it loud! The Afro-Punk Festival is back at BAM for the fourth year running. Naive and idealistic Jefferson Smith, is appointed on a lark by the spineless governor of his state. He is reunited with the state's senior senator--presidential hopeful and childhood hero, Senator Joseph Paine. In Washington, however, Smith discovers many of the shortcomings of the political process as his earnest goal of a national boys' camp leads to a conflict with the state political boss, Jim Taylor.
